25/10/16 The Big Jam Event
Last Wednesday I had the opportunity to work on filming at The Big Jam Event, a university event in the Hendon Central Area. The event only lasted a few hours but what I learned was quite valuable; it was an art event showcasing various types of art works including dance and virtual reality playthroughs.
Since there were a few of us and only two video cameras we split ourselves into smaller groups and pairs to distribute individual roles and start recording the set up of the event. My role on this day was camera assistant, writing down the type of shot and its name that we had captured during this event to make it easier for the editor to choose the desired shot in the edit.
While Angel - the main camera operator was taking shots of the event unfolding, I helped the others with getting students to come over and be interviewed on the event.
The camera used was the sony EX3, a broadcast video camera which is suitable for events such as these. I have had experience with the EX3 last year helping film the business event at Greenwich and so I was able to take some shots since I knew how to operate the video camera.
Through this event, I have slightly improved some skills I already have; I have better communication and team working skills as I listened and was listened to when coming up with what shots we would shoot next during the event.
Overall the event went well as we got all the shots relevant to what was happening during the art event and everyone seemed to be happy with the outcome.
In terms of my performance during this event; I could have encouraged more students to be interviewed, written all of the shots that were recorded although it was a lot of shots. This was also a student-led student event allowing us - the students to come up with creative ways in shooting the event as it happened.
